Coldplay gets 7.0 from Pitchfork; Hell Reportedly Frozen Over

As you guys know, I read a lot of Pitchfork (yeah, yeah boo Pitchfork, elitist snobby hipsters, blah blah WHATEVER). Wine all you want, but they write the best music reviews I’ve come across and most of the time I agree with/trust their opinions…. Well most of the time…ok some of the time…
ANYWAY, the big news today is that Coldplay’s new record Mylo Xyloto has received a 7.0/10 rating from Pitchfork. A 7.0!!! For those of you who don’t know, a 7.0 from Pitchfork is big. It means they actually liked your album and thought it was good, the redeeming qualities outweighing the bad. And here I was thinking that Coldplay would wallow in the 5-6 range for all eternity, just cool enough to be on Pitchfork’s radar but way too mainstream and lame to get a good score. I considered Coldplay to be among the bands who would never, EVER get a favorable review out of Pitchfork. Like Kings of Leon, for example (back when they were good). Three albums of 5.somethings and that’s where they’ve stayed (their last two albums totally deserving their critical drubbing). Or Cold War Kids, or Kasabian, the list goes on and on. There some bands Pitchfork simply does not like, and today Coldplay separated themselves from that group.
So congratulations Coldplay! You guys earned it! Our Mylo Xyloto review will follow shortly once we stop listening to that crazy/awesome M83 record.
